I chose to do this nameplate, because i wanted to show something with elegance and a bit of style. I also wanted to keep my nameplate simple so that it won't grab the attention of the readers, rather then the content. I named my paper The Currier because my last name is Curry. I am a gemini so i used a gemini symbol in the backround to show that there is two sides to every story. You know a yin and a yang, good v. evil, etc etc etc......

The name for the newspaper just automatically came to mind as soon as I saw the yin and yang symbol in photoshop. I decided the word would make use of the circular symbol thus created the birth of 'The Visionary." I chose the Dalai Llama as the symbol because he is revered as figurehead of peace. I particularly like this picture because his pupils aligns with the dot on the eye and the dots of the yin yang are in the center of his face.

I did my nameplate with a very bare bones style, intentionally mind you. My thinking was the less color the better as most nameplates I know are black and white. The reference I made with the nameplate was New Mombassa, the main Earth city in the Halo games. I play videogames a lot and thus the first reference that came to my mind was a goofy one regarding a videogame I really enjoy. I'm a nerd. Oh well. Better than being generic, right? I don't know about that.

Overall, the nameplate does not express much that is different from a typical newspaper, but after trying to relate it only to what really interests me, I realized the paper would be lacking – in both readership and content. A newspaper has to run with the reader in mind. For instance, if a sports fan only wants sports, he or she would buy Sports Illustrated or ESPN the Magazine rather than a newspaper. My goal is to please everyone with this paper.

I named my paper The Chunker because the town I grew up in was originally called Mauch Chunk. If your family has lived their for generations, then you call yourself a "Chunker." The town is in PA, and it's a pretty quiet, simple place. I think this nameplate reflects that.
